Job Description
To provide strategic and operational leadership for all mining activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production in line with business objectives. The Mine Manager is accountable for production performance, regulatory compliance, and overall mine site management.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. Operational Leadership
- Oversee all mining operations (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and ore delivery).
- Ensure production targets are achieved in line with mine plans and budgets.
- Optimize mining methods, equipment utilization, and workforce productivity.
- 2. Strategic Planning & Execution
- Implement short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans in collaboration with Technical Services.
- Contribute to Life of Mine (LOM) planning and resource optimization.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- 3. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all HSE policies.
- Ensure adherence to Ghanaian mining regulations and environmental standards.
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- 4. Financial & Cost Control
- Develop and manage operational budgets and cost controls.
- Monitor and report on cost performance, identifying variances and implementing corrective measures.
- Ensure cost-effective use of resources including equipment, labor, and consumables.
- 5. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing mining team.
- Ensure workforce competency through training and development programs.
- Foster a disciplined, accountable, and performance-driven culture.
- 6. Stakeholder & Regulatory Engagement
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, including the Minerals Commission Ghana, to ensure compliance.
- Engage with local communities and stakeholders to maintain positive relationships.
- Support audits, inspections, and reporting requirements.
- 7. Reporting & Governance
- Prepare and present operational reports to senior management.
- Ensure accurate production, safety, and cost reporting.
- Maintain proper documentation and governance standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of mine planning and scheduling.
- Knowledge of drill and blast optimization.
- Experience with mining software (e.g., Surpac, Datamine, MineSched).
- Solid financial and cost management skills.
- Strong leadership and decision-making capability.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- High level of accountability and integrity.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to perform under pressure in a demanding operational environment.
